My journey to health took many years. I knew there was an answer if I just kept looking. Knowledge is power and I finally found mine. Let me share my journey with you.
Here I am at 17 graduating from high school. I had worked full time for a year at this point in a fast food restaurant with all the food I could eat. I gained 50 pounds in that year, even though I rode my bike to school and work every day. I was totally addicted to this type of food at this point and was always craving more. I was too embarrassed to go to prom even though I was asked. I tried different diets and even hormone shots that my parents set up for me. Nothing worked so far. I just kept eating and getting bigger and bigger.
Now I'm living on my own and working in a nursing home as a nurse's aid. It didn't help to be working graveyard either. I would eat at work between rounds and sleep all day and eat on the go as well. I was not a happy camper. I was tired all the time and couldn't enjoy my days off as my time clock was pretty messed up. My only comforts were food, television and my cat. I tried even harder to lose weight. Every morning I would say this is the day! By 3:00 my cravings were so intense I had to go get something. I could eat a whole box of doughnuts or a whole gallon of ice cream. I ate until I felt sick sometimes.
At this point I am married with a 3 year old daughter. I had to have emergency gallbladder removal due to my poor diet of fast foods and packaged snacks. I had a miserable pregnancy due to the condition of my gallbladder. I tried to flush the stones out myself and ended up getting one stuck in the bile duct and suffered jaundice and severe pain until the surgeon came the next morning. The first thing I learned was about fats and oils. There are good ones and there are bad ones. This alone made a big difference in my life. I then started learning all about how to eat and I made a lot of changes that I still do today.
I am 57 here and had released more than 60 pounds. At 5'2" I am very selective with my food quality. I allow myself to eat anything I have in my house, which is all healthy and I don't feel deprived. I also learned how to cleanse out the toxins in my body which helped a lot with the food cravings. This way I was able to re-set my appetite to eat only when I was truly hungry, not when I was jonesing for some unhealthy processed food item.
I am now in my sixties and I continue to learn and teach others how to be healthy with cleansing, diet and exercise. This has become my passion in life and I'm excited to share it with others who are ready to make a change. I did it naturally with fresh, whole food. I've learned that everyone has different needs and they should be met individually. I wish I knew someone like me when I was much younger who could help me the way I am helping others now.
